Effect of Seed Tuber Age and Weight on Major characters in Different Local Strains of Taro , Colocasia antiquorum SCHOTT

Abstract
Present work was carried out to improve the method of cultivation of taro by using new(one year old) or old (2 or 3 years old) seed tubers of 13 local strains in Korea.
The results obtained were as follows:
(1) The heavier the weight of seed tubers planted was, the earlier the emergence of that was.
(2) The heavier the weight of one year old seed tuber planted was, the higher the yield, number of tillers, height of plant, and fresh weight of top were. And the yield, number of tillers, height of plant, and fresh weight of top of 2 or 3 years old seed tubers planted were heigher than those of one year old seed tubers planted.
(3) The flowers were observed when 2 or 3 years old seed tubers with green petioles were planted, but not observed in the local strains with violet petioles.
(4) Largely, the yield, fresh weight of top, and height of plant of Gongju 2, and those of Yeongju were the highest among the local strains experimented.
